New York is a fashion capital as well as a shopping Paradise! Today, we will introduce you to a selection of independent designers and boutiques that you have to visit while exploring the big apple. Keep in mind that from neighborhood-to-neighborhood, style and trends tend to change, therefore this is a preview of all that New York fashion has to offer.

1. DejaVu Boutique

Located in Port Washington, you cannot pass by DejaVu boutique and not be drawn by their shopping windows. What strikes the most about this shop, is the fact that a few years ago this space was the Bodley Gallery, one of New York’s finest art galleries filled with modern and contemporary creations. Today, it’s still possible to visit the gallery as the boutique has preserved the second floor to showcase the work of established artists. Located in the Lower East Side, the Vaquera store is a testament to the brand’s unconventional approach. The collection features bold silhouettes, unexpected materials, and a playful nod to pop culture. Each piece is a statement, challenging the status quo of mainstream fashion.

3. Maryam Nassir Zadeh

New Yorkers are familiar with this designer’s name, Maryam Nassir Zadeh. Located on the Lower East Side, her shop is filled with an extravagant selection of clothes and artifacts that will bring your style to another level. Maryam’s grandmother used to have a boutique back in her hometown in Iran and used to import items from other countries. It looks like Maryam has brough this tradition with her to New York as the store not only showcases Maryam’s fashion line, but also includes those of other designers such as Rejina Pjo.

4. Gorjana

If you are looking for unique pieces of jewelry, you must step inside Gorjana, a gorgeous shop Located in lower Manhattan. Founded in 2004 by Gorjana and Jason Reidel, the couple created a brand that reflects the beauty of their hometown, Laguna Beach. And side note, this is one of the many shops that the couple has opened all over the country.

5. M.Crow & Company

A piece of American history is the M. CROW store. It actually opened its doors 109 years ago in Lostine, and when it switched ownership in 2012 to Tyler Hays, it opened other doors in New York City. So, what you can find in here? Well, everything! From blankets made with cashmere to beauty products made with wax! All of which made from locally sourced materials.

6. Oroboro

Have you ever wondered where New York’s cool kids get the latest trendiest clothes? Well, wonder no more! The answer is Oroboro, a boutique filled with unique pieces hand-picked to provide shoppers with one of a kind, be they extravagant or timeless, pieces. The store hides another gem, the apothecary in the back where you can find everything used by Lucas’ Papaw Ointment to grow Alchemist serums.

7. Steven Alan

Steven Alan has designed collections for Urban Outfitters, Uniqlo and Keds.

Within his multi-brand shop, including his own label, you’ll find a unique and curated selection of pieces of women’s and men’s clothing, accessories, jewelry, and homewares.

8. Creel & Gow

If the previous boutiques were more fashion centered, Creel and Gow is more about accessories and adornments. Located inside what used to be the home of Grosvenor Atterbury, the entire boutique has a different and hectic charm, thanks to objects created by the minds of Jamie Creel and Cristopher Gow, just to name a few. If you are looking for a unique shopping experience, where to purchase unique ornaments such as statues and rare gems then you have found the perfect spot.

9. Local Color NYC

At Greenpoint, in Brooklyn there is a special location that deserves attention. Local Color NYC is a unique boutique that sells exclusive and independent brands. The roots of this shop dates back to when the owner Christine, was laid off from her job and decided to open her own store and collaborate with independent designers. At first, the store was actually a truck! Shopping at Local Color allows you to find unique garments, while also supporting smaller made in America businesses.
